Test for blood glucose

Diabetes, we’ve all heard of this disease our parents would threaten us with when we’d had too much of a sweet tooth but turns out, our parents had only scratched the surface of how debilitating this disease can be.

Diabetes type 1 is a chronic disease where your pancreas produces little or no insulin (insulin is the hormone released by your pancreas to lower glucose levels). It usually appears during adolescence.

Symptoms of diabetes type 1 include but aren’t limited to: increased thirst, frequent urination, hunger, fatigue and blurred vision. Left untreated, it could cause severe and life altering side effects such as kidney disease, cardiovascular disease, nerve damage and more

The usual test is the A1C tests which measure how your average blood sugar levels have been over the past two to three months whereas another test is a fasting sugar test where you give your blood in the morning before eating or drinking anything.

The medication for type one diabetes is usually insulin via injection. Diabetics usually know when to take it thanks to the glucometer that measures their blood sugar. The normal levels are 70-130 mg/dL and less than 180mg/dL after meals.

Despite how scary it might sound, most diabetic people can lead a good life if they’re treating their diabetes constitently.

If you experience most of the symptoms listed in this article, please contact your nearest GP (general practitioner) and get it checked immediately.
