House MD in season one if the show was real:
okay, I’m not the only one who’s binge-watched all of House MD and wondered if any of what he was doing was legal. I mean I cannot tell you how shocked I am that the hospital was still running all eight seasons. sure, we came close to a no-medical-license house in season 2 cause of someone… (no spoilers) but really? Is any of it legal?
simple answer, NO!!! I mean even when you sit down and think about it, there’s no way a stranger with a medical license could break into your home without having broken some law. so yeah, medical professionals are not exempt from breaking and entering. a large majority of the time the doctors would break into patient’s homes and honestly. sometimes I’d think it was a good idea.
okay, before you call the cops on me, hear me out. of course, in no way shape or form are medical professionals allowed to completely invade and violate a patient’s privacy like that but if there were to be a law implemented where you have to tell the patient you were breaking and entering, more often than not, they would hide something they dont want you to see that is relevant to the case. for example, a doctor in new south wales attempting to pull a doctor house would pay a 550$ fine.
nevertheless, ethically, morally and in all the -ally’s, it’s straight up wrong. but they did solve a lot of cases with clues from homes (for example, hidden drugs) and it would be just as helpful in practice in real life so hopefully in the near future, patients and medical professionals can come to a compromise on these things so the patient can have the best care possible with all the information that’s necessary is needed.
